Distant Finales
I always really loved the cinematic trope of the distant finale. Those brief pieces of text which exist in the limbic space between the end of the movie and the beginning of the credits, but which reveal so much about what happened next. They’re part-sequel, but also self-contained narratives unto themselves. They’re particularly powerful in telling us the fate of the characters we might have just spent a couple of hours invested in, and I always feel the most telling finales are the ones which leave as much ambiguity in as possible. They close the door on a sequel, but leave enough open for the viewer to fill in what happened themselves. Here I’m writing myself into a series of my own cinematic finales, and blending them with generative images. The text is real, the images are not.
